| Call for Proposals |
Calls for workshop proposals will be made on a regular schedule and will be judged on a competitive basis. The maximum sum per request is now $10,000. $100,000 has been allocated to the Scientific Advisory Committee for 2010 workshops and continuing commitments. Funding round close dates: 1 March 2012 15 June 2012 7 September 2012 1 December 2012 Special Theme Programs and Hot Topics Workshops An additional $25,000 will be allocated for the funding of Special Theme Programs and Hot Topics Workshops along the lines of those at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications in Minneapolis. Applications can be made at any time. Guidelines Assessment of proposals is competitive based on scientific merit and likely national impact. Workshops and conferences usually run for between one and five days, and address a specific field, or even a particular research problem.
Funding can be provided to fully or partially support travel and accommodation of some invited speakers and is usually in the range of $1,000 to $10,000, dependent on the size of the event. Catering and venue hire will not normally be covered. Applicants are encouraged to use AMSI premises if practicable as they are modern, very well equipped and centrally located, with good access to transport and a range of hotels and other accommodation. Final reports and the invoice for sponsorship must be received within 90 days after the event for payment. Please provide proposals in plain text or pdf format only. A proposal for a workshop must include:
AMSI will not support regular workshops, conferences or other meetings. However, it may support workshops that are run in parallel with such gatherings. The proposal should make it clear that support is not being sought for the regular meeting, but to expand/increase participation in the associated workshop. AMSI will not usually fund special sessions at conferences. We may support satellite meetings associated with major conferences. AMSI provides sponsorship for particular expenses, normally travel and/or accommodation for nominated invited speakers. Travel and accommodation for other attendees may be available through the AMSI travel funds. AMSI does not provide sponsorship for administrative expenses, venue hire or catering. Special Theme Programs and Hot Topics Workshops (updated June 2010) Hot topics workshops should focus on specific and emergent areas of research and must include the involvement of key players. Organisers should identify the intended strategic outcomes, including advances in research, of the workshop and make a case for the national benefit of these outcomes. Hot topics workshop applications can be made at any time, however they will only be approved when the application could not have been made to one of the regular workshop competitions. This will usually because some exceptional opportunity has emerged that could not have been anticipated. It is up to the proposer to make the case that his or her request could not have been otherwise handled. In addition, such requests must in the Advisory Committee's view be at least of the same quality as that of recent AMSI funded workshops.
